From Eric Hallstrom: I think Dan Shoemaker was in Sawhorse. I recall Phil telling me this when I said I thought they were the greatest band I ever saw at a Common Place show at age 16. I purchased this 4x10 Marshall Speaker Cabinet that Dan Shoemaker used from Phil. It was the one he used in Sawhorse, I think. Sawhorse may be part of the reason we named our first band Rocking Horse. The speaker cabinet had the Ls from “Marshall” broken off, and we called it “Marsha"

From: Chris N: settleforless was a ska-punk-core band formed in Grand Island in the
summer of 99, and later moved to Lincoln. They mostly played Lincoln
and Omaha, frequenting the then bustling Cog Factory. One of the
original suckapunch bands, settleforless was geared towards the younger
all ages crowds. Brent Heath moving away to college and Brad moving to
Cali basically threw the band in a downward spiral trying to cover for
them. Chris moved to trombone and 2 different guitar players were tried
for awhile to no avail until Elliott took over in 2003. Eventually Brad
moved home, and the band moved forward, trying to incorporate some more
folk/irish influence in the music. Somewhere in 2003 a decision was
made to scrap the ska routine and go the route of the growing folk punk
genre. Joy joined the band, Ben Swift eventually took over on drums,
and Chris Moved to accoustic guitar, and pat to accordion. Only a few
shows were played under this lineup Differences in opinions on band
direction led Brant, Joy and Elliott to quit the band. Chris, Brad,
Ben, and Pat decided to move on and formed 'the killigans' with new
bass, fiddle, and electric guitar players.

Shinyville's bio reads as follows:
The organism evolves. It dies and gives birth to itself, forgets its prior
lives and recalls them in a flash of sulfurous intuition. Shinyville
manifests currently as an eight-year experiment in engineered ur-reality,
transubstantiating tones into sermons, handcuffs into decorative lizards,
and denial into expectations.
"Most religions of the past have failed by expecting Nature to conform with
their ideals of proper conduct." Not here, mates. Life creates a launching
pad for the Geist by engineering a thousand near-deaths. The equinox of the
gods refracts the twilight of the idols. Become an infant in our infantry, a baby
in the New Babylonian Imminence Corps. We will meet every soldier with an
endless supply of hunchbacks, each handcrafted in bronze and blood.
Shinyville is a cult. Shinyville is a secret society. Shinyville is at once apolitical and
revolutionary. Shinyville is a formula for the promotion of epilepsy, schizophrenia, and
tripolar disorder. Shinyville isn't an injection of counter-culture into your jugular.
The Day-Glo Mass seeks to eviscerate our sexuality, our nationality, our
gender, our humanity. The footprint of a lost value arrives looking like the
symbol of infinity, suspicions of paranoia inspired by patterns in the static.
Rain turns to snow under the last streetlight of ambition.
You speak to me thus: "To stare into the abyss, one must have already begun
to climb." You arrive late on the scene as the prophet. It's about fucking time.
With your bladder ready to burst and Armageddon mere seconds away, what do
you do?

From Bernie McGinn:
The 90's - Good shows on campus, organized by dave rabe. Duffy's emerges
as a consistent place for music featuring lost of touring bands, again
with Dave at the helm. Red and Black Cafe.... Shows at the Wagon Train
Project (7th St. Loft). Shakes Cafe steps in (probably to its own harm)
to do lots of shows as well, providing a breeding ground for all sorts
of fun stuff. The band room at kinckerbocker's opens up - its great to
have a place that is doing shows most nights of the week - and let's me
bring in all ages matinee shows.

Brian Tontegode also ran Family Man records which released "Innebraska", a compilation of Nebraska bands.
From Eric Hallstrom: They did their national tour the summer of 1992, because Water patterned our tour on theirs. I think Filter was coming about during 1993, because Brian was dropping out of the scene.
From Kevin Gregorius: Slide had two releases -- one in 1991, one in 1992 (with the opening/closing being the announcers recorded from the Big Red Rock-O-Rama). Slide originally had four members: Nate something or other was a vocalist who left not terribly long after the first cassette came out. There was one issue of Duff Stuff where bands voted on their favorite bands – Roosevelt Franklin picked Slide.

The nucleus of the Band was John Carlini, and Mark Harper who were the
Lenin and McCartney (so to speak of the band). Carlini, and Kuberski were true jazz heads,
and Sistek was a great percussionist with a firm understanding of all kinds of music.
Harper was not a GREAT player persay, but he was a rather interesting performer.
His feature songs were: "I wanna be Like BB King", I dreamed I was a woman"
We played almost entirely all original music.
Carlini wrote a tune called "Coffee" , that had us sounding a bit like
talking heads, amongst others. But our sound was quite full and .. .quite unique.
Eric Shanks was actually the manager of the band, and he also ran around
on stage as we allowed it. He was not that musical.
I was the Bass player and was not that great or shitty. My role was to
mediate all the varying and eccentric personalities.
I think our first gig was at the Student Union. Then, thereafter we
played at the famous Drumstick a few times. We also played other parties
and stuff I probably don't remember
I was working at "Waterbed World" on about 19th and O and the guys
(Carlini & Kuberski) came in and fired me to be replaced by John Link
(a far better musician than I was). Shortly thereafter, I was also fired
from Waterbed World for sleeping behind the cash register. - Martin Pugh

From Harry Dingman: S.G.P.W. would cover the stage with dead tree limbs use bright white lights and play melodic industrial sounding songs that were so loud you could hardly be in the same room with them. Also their fog machine emitted toxic smoke- if the music didn't get you their fog certainly would! They released one great cassette.
