The recent announcement that Bright Calm Blue was playing their last show came as quite a surprise. Now, it’s not all that bad, they’re not actually breaking up, but they’re changing musical direction slightly, changing instrumentation slightly, and changing their name. I caught up with Javid to find out what was behind the changes, and where the band is headed.
SCS: I read on Slam Omaha that you were switching over to being a polka band. Any truth to that rumor?
Javid: Yes. Well, no. We're not doing that.
SCS: Was Dustin's recent arrest for going door to door in a girl-scout uniform showing people his "thin mint" behind this change, and if not, what was?
Javid: Dustin has a thin mint, and he gives it.
SCS: Aside from Mike switching to keyboard only, what other types of changes will we hear in the music?
Javid: I'm not sure--we have 1/2 a song finished--it's different, but I think it's better. Some people won't like it. It's still mathy at times, but it's also more catchy and simple.
SCS: Will it take a fair amount of time away from playing live to work out your new stuff? How soon can we expect to see the new incarnation on stage?
Javid: Yeah, we have to write songs. We'll aim for March...around the ides.
SCS: Will be band still be on Level-Plane?
Javid:I don't know--we haven't told them yet.
SCS: Anything else you want to share with our readers?
Javid: Yes. Anyone who has new band name ideas for us should send them to me at
javiddabestani@hotmail.com however, I won't use any of them.
